Sheathing

Joist: A horizontal structural member that supports floors or ceilings. Joists run in parallel and are typically made of lumber or engineered wood. Knowing where your joists are matters when hanging heavy objects from a ceiling or adding weight to a floor.

Load-bearing wall: A wall that carries structural weight from above and transfers it down to the foundation.
