Tips to choose the best bed skirts
Bed skirts give a stylish appearance to the bed without exposing the sides of the box spring. Besides its aesthetic benefits, a bed skirt allows you to use the space under the bed to store things.
Bed skirts feature a skirt and a deck, also called a platform. The platform is the flat piece of fabric that lies between the mattress and the box spring while the skirt is the part of the fabric that cascades over the floor.
Types of bed skirts
- Three-sided bed skirts – They feature the skirt on the two long sides and slimmer foot portion of the bed.
Things to look for when choosing a bed skirt for your bed:
Size : Size is important so that the bed skirts hang properly from your bed. It is best to measure the sides of your bed to get an idea about the size. While buying the pattern of your choice, consider the length and breadth of your bed as measurements should be taken differently for different patterns.
Drop : The drop of a bed skirt is the length of fabric falling from your bed to the ground. A standard measurement for ready-made bed skirts is 15″, but they may vary.
Color : A solid color bed skirt is always a good idea as it is easy to mix and match. However, if you are going for a lighter or a pastel shade, ensure that the bed skirt is made of a heavy fabric so that light does not show from under the bed.
Texture: Heavy-textured fabrics like chenille, velvet, faux suede, and Matelassé are good options as they maintain shape and size for a longer time.
While buying ready-made bed skirts that come along with comforters or bed sheets, check the fabric of the bed skirt carefully. There is no point in buying a matching bed skirt, which is inferior in quality and does not even last until the first wash.
