I wanna, (ha) I wanna, (ha) I wanna, (ha) I wanna, (ha)
I wanna really, really, ,really, wanna zigazig ah –

Yeah, you read that right – it’s the Spice Girls’ debut single hit, ‘Wannabe’. And if the buzz is to believed, they may well be back to set the stage on fire in the much anticipated (and increasingly uncertain) Spice Girls Reunion Tour 2018.

But first, let’s look back back at the girls and the mark they made on pop-history!

An all-female British pop band – Spice Girls formed in the year 1994, with these members:

  • Melanie Brown (Scary Spice)
  • Melanie Chisholm (Sporty Spice)
  • Emma Bunton (Baby Spice)
  • Geri Halliwell (Ginger Spice)
  • Victoria Adams Beckham (Posh Spice)

The girls rocked the world with their debut album ‘ Spice ‘ released in 1996, which went on to sell more than 31 million copies worldwide.

Their debut song ‘Wannabe’ was a chartbuster in 37 countries. The band’s contribution to Pop Music created a mania throughout the world that engulfed countless teens and young adults.

However, not long after they attained their stupendous success, Geri Halliwell left the band, in 1998. The band continued on for some time, but finally disbanded in the year 2000.

They had a superhit show in 2008 which was a 2 hour long pop extravaganza with songs like ‘The Lady is a Vamp’ and ‘If You Can’t Dance.’ Each of the Spice Girls also got their moments of solo glory – particularly Victoria with her graceful and mesmerizing catwalk.

They were later seen together again at the launch of Vivo Forever in 2012, at the West End’s Piccadilly theatre.

The Reunion (or lack thereof)

The 2018 Spice Girls reunion has been mired in rumor and intrigue from the moment that word about it started to spread.

After a host of speculation, and rumors spreading like wildfire, it was seemingly confirmed that the Spice Girls Reunion Tour 2018 was on. The band members were said to have signed the contract to go ahead with a tour scheduled to begin in the summer of 2018. The tour was speculated to be somewhere around September 2018, as that month coincides with the 20th anniversary of their live Wembley Stadium performance.

But in February 2018, Victoria Beckham (Posh Spice), gave an interview to Vogue denying all reports of the band’s reunion tour or of signing any contract. She further stated that she was more focused on her fashion business. Not long after, however, she claimed that the #MeToo Movements and Times Up Campaign inspired her to go ahead with the tour. Later, TMZ reported that all the members had signed the contracts for going ahead with the reunion tour, and had also finalized the locations as well as the compensation. It was speculated that the group’s original manager Simon Fuller was behind this Reunion Tour. Melanie Brown (Scary Brown) was allegedly first to sign the contract.

In April however, Victoria claimed that while there might be a reunion of sorts, it might not necessarily involve a tour, or the creation of any new music.

Regardless of what form this reunion eventually takes, fans all over the globe are no doubt waiting with bated breath for the Spice Girls to (literally) get the band back together again!
